I’m using Oracle Virtual machine and everything is ok but dont have enough space to install bactrack in C:\ /. Could you tell me How to change my installation path from C:\ to D:\ drive.

    Thank You
    Lalit Kumar

    1. simply at the time of creation choose VHD location to d drive or simply copy all your vm files to D: disk
all Oracle virtual machines are located under users home folder

    1. You most likely downloaded the .vmware image instead of .ISO this means you will have to go back to the website and re-download it, don’t worry, we all make mistakes.

if backtrack installed in virtual machine?
    please help me…
    Many thanks.

    1. our pleasure to help you Mr.Mac
see if you are well acquainted with the linux environment be it any distro then you may go either way and both ways are easy if you dont find it easy we will make it for you but we will suggest you to go for virtual machine where you can perform many tests on your backtrack linux without harming your computer whereas a dedicated install will have more resources to harm on your computer

waiting to hear from you again….Thank You

      1. Hello…Rohit.

I chose the default boot text mode but BackTrack keeps hanging with a black “loading” screen page and nothing else…

      1. Hi Alok,

Actually there isnt anything to screen grab. Basically I open Backtrack in VMware (on Mac), the first line comes up:

        ISOLINUX 3.63 Debian-2008-07-15 Copyright…. Boot :

        I press Enter

Then the load screen for Backtrack comes up. I select the first option “Backtrack Text – Default Boot Text Mode”

and the screen then goes to black with a single word “Loading _”

And it just sits there. I cannot do anything its as if its frozen.

        Any ideas??

        1. Download newer version of backtrack named kali Linux
          And use latest fusion …
If you don’t want yo upgrade try to change CPU setting in VMware fusion

  13. when i install my back track 5 r3.then restart .but when back track run then want …log in: and password :
i dont understand …..what my log in name and password.because i am not set any id in my backtrack.plz help me..quickly

  14. do you have to have Linux as an operating system. I am using windows and I keep getting an error message.

  15. i have installed a backtrack 5r3 via virtual machine upto last 4th pic that shows installation icon of bcktrck and want to use along with window which’s my primary os i have parition of hdd in running os…plz suggest what things i need to do and and even want a boot cd to create for it. plz discribe briefly.

    1. dual boot installation is simple .. in the installation process at the point of choosing hdd select that free partition and click continue

1 : after install grub bootloader will show your windows os along with newly installed backtrack

2 : if it don’t show your windows os then simple insert windows dvd and repair it it will rewrite MBR with windows bootloader

and you can use EasyBCD to add backtrack entry in windows bootloader

    1. /boot/syslinux or /syslinux directory
if you find any of them , rename it isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg
If syslinux.cfg file does exist and your still encountering the error, open that syslinux.cfg file with text editor and make sure that the paths to your kernel and initrd files are correct.

  16. Hi!

  17. Hi
When ı was installing for 64 bit “This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot – please use a kernel appropriate for your CPU” but I look my cpu’s does support 64-bit ? How can I do this

  18. pretend i didn't just say that…. because the real problem is that you need to enable Intel Virtualization on your PC to use a VM. This is done in the BIOS. Enable this and you should be in good shape.

  19. You probably need to try with a 32-bit version of backtrack then. It looks like your cpu doesn't support 64-bit OS.

  20. i got one more error "this kernel requires a x86 or 64 cpu but detect only i686 cpu please use the appropriate kernel for your cpu

  21. followed all this steps and installed it successfully. now theres a problem i think will cause problems in the future. when i installed linux i gave i such little space, now when i installed bt5 i gave it like 5gb
